Federal Tax Credits
Residential Renewable Energy Tax Credits
In 2008, Congress passed the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act. In the Act, under Section 106, “Long-term Extension & Modification of Residential Energy-Efficient Property Credit,” Congress extended certain tax credits for the inclusion of renewable energy products in residential buildings.
This means that consumers who install solar energy systems (including solar water heating and solar electric systems), small wind systems, geothermal heat pumps, and residential fuel cell and microturbine systems can receive a 30% tax credit for systems placed in service before December 31, 2016.
